Old Traditonal House - The Netherlands

A complete transformation in surroundings of Amsterdam. This stunningly beautiful home is the result of an intense renovation.  The old farm house from 1882 with a high focus on authenticity and with respect for the past.

With a panoramic view of the meadows at the back of the house and the water in the front the house is located on a very idyllic location. Adaptive reuse was at the core of this project.

Originally there were three different buildings; the white dike house, with behind it the stable and a large two floors workshop. The house had an excess of walls that have been removed to create a well-appointed open living room. To add more space the stable was connected and turned into a large, open kitchen. The vision for this house was to create a seamless look and feel across the house.

To retain the soul and character some of the original elements were incorporated in the design. For instance, the black rebate from exterior of the old stable is used inside against the kitchen walls, and old from the barn is reused as the door to the toilet in the hall. Another piece of history from the house that is reused is and old workbench found in the barn that turned into the cooking island for the kitchen.

Featuring ample of square footage and great flow, there was a lot of to play with in terms of renovations and design. The interior is a mixture of styles, but with a clear Scandinavian twist to it. It also includes quite some Dutch brands, including the white paper wardrobe from Studio Job, chairs from Bart Vos and lightnings from Christine Meindertsma.

The design is well though-out and organized. It has a chic clean linear style, yet is has some unexpected elements that add a sense of humor, like the fun wall with the animal wallpaper. Or the classic pendant lights that form an exciting contrast with the modern, sleek concrete floor and tailor-made marble dining table.

The real eye-catcher in the bathroom is definitely the sink that comes from an old school. In combination with the Italian tile flooring with wood pattern and the pharmacy cupboard by Neef Louis it gives the bathroom just that little extra.
